Duh! Of course He knows what He is doing! But if that's the case, why do I sometimes live my life like I know more than He does? Maybe what I need more than anything else is to always believe that Jesus is always right about everything. When Jesus lived on earth He could have taught about economics or medicine or astronomy. He could have told everyone that the earth revolves around the sun 1500 years before Copernicus proposed his heliocentric theory. He could have clearly explained the space/time continuum or that funky concept we call "Deja Vu". In His infinite brilliance, He could have clarified all the mysteries of mankind, even ones we haven't yet thought about 2000 years later.
Instead, He taught about how to live life to the fullest and about what keeps us from living that kind of life. Why teach about those things? Because that is our biggest need.
To experience "the good life", what is "good" needs to flow from inside us. If good was flowing from inside all of us, most of the biggest problems of the world would be solved. Families wouldn't fall apart and kids could grow up feeling safe and secure. War would not be seen as a helpful option. People would feel accepted for who they are rather than chasing after money or the latest diet to make them feel more valuable. We would quickly care for people in need. Leaders and politicians would serve unselfishly and only for the good of the people. And the list goes on.
Jesus came to make it possible for "good" to flow from inside each of us. Our first step is to believe that Jesus knows how to experience that kind of life better than anyone else and that He wants it for us more than we want it ourselves. The question is, "Do we trust Him?"

Great post Alan!
Our relationship with God is intimate. He's doing it because he loves us. Think of a relationship that you have where you entirely love the other person. Do you want them to do good? Do you want to help them succeed in what they do? Do you want them to be happy? God wants the same for us too.
Every story and event that is laid out in the bible directs us to think about our relationships this way. God has been trying to teach us and guide us (his creation) since he first created us. And that's not just limited to the commandments. It encompasses EVERYTHING.
As an aside, I'd also like to say something on the subject of the "solar-centric" fact of the universe: if you've read First Enoch, you'll know that God even revealed THAT profound truth before some guy named Copernicus came along. How awesome is that?!?

Thanks for the comments, Wes! Your insight on God's love for us is clear.
I have not read form Enoch. I have read from several apocryphal books, but I have not read from any books, such as Enoch, from the Psuedepigrapha, which are considered another step below the apocrypha in reliability. However, I do believe that what's true is true no matter where you find it, so I'll have to check it out.
Yes, please do Alan. I read 1 Enoch this summer and it's a very interesting read. I can't say that I agree with everything in it, but it's definitely enlightening considering that scholars think it was written 400 years prior to Christ.
Looking forward to your next blog entry :-)
